Yuri

I write unique instrumentals in a variety of genres: electronic, modern hybrid, and neo-classical styles. It's a passion.

It's been satisfying that some of my work has appeared in media productions such as "Housewives of New York City", "Secret FBI Files", CNBC's "American Greed", ID Discovery's "Love Kills" and "Reasonable Doubt", "Disappearance of Natalie Holloway", and a variety of international films. But, scoring sync music is not my focus.

Expressing myself through music is.

Okay Yuri, so so sorry for the delay! I'm listening to "Won't You Love Me" - Lovely singing style in the RH - the LH might need a bit of softening to stay in balance. At around 1:48 - 1:50 the dynamics could be perhaps shaped there, as it goes into the V, a slight pause would make editors happy if they were cutting for a scene change etc., but you do take that opportunity at 1:59 so you I see that you did nail that. A little EQ trick I learned somewhere was to get a soft yet full sound by cutting around 220 - 240hz (you have to experiment so it could be different, but that works for me ) and that lets the drama come out in a subtle way, I mean depending if that's what you're going for. Track is well put together! Then I listened to "Softest Touch" - lovely sounds that fit a contemplative or pensive mood, very much like the way the rhythm of the guitar/harp? keeps the track moving forward but it's not overpowering at all, just right. It is a lovely track and would do very well in many scenarios I think! It's simple but sounds sophisticated too. And "Melancholy" next - lovely feel with some surprising and pleasing melodic and harmonic changes, very satisfying to listen. Especially like the contrast at around 1:18 forward, breaks down to a perfect ending, perfect trim too at the end. I can tell you spent a lot of time on this one. You know overall I'd say if there was one thing to change it might be to just pull back a "bit" on the bass parts, and that way the melodies can really sing effortlessly. Great stuff Yuri! Wishing you many placements for the future! -Kind regards, Diane

Thank you so much, Diane! Great insights and suggestions. You've also given me the feeling that I'm really not that far off. Question: Do you think that maybe my music is too melodic, or attention grabbing to work for sync purposes?

I always enjoy listening to your work, Diane. By the way, Congrats on your track, "Inner Desolation", being picked up. Well done.

I really like the sound of your piano and your playing style. I submitted 8 tracks to that brief and didn't even get a nibble. I feel like I need to rethink the sound and mixing choices I'm making. Maybe when you find a some time, you could do a quick listen to some of mine and give a little feedback. The tracks I submitted are at the top of my home page list with "Piano Solo" in the titles.

Thanks,

Yuri

Thank you Yuri for your kind comments. Yes I'd love to dig into your material, I think feedback is so valuable and I think new ears hear things that could help .. Give me a day or two to catch
up with some odds and ends, and I'd be happy to do that. Cheers :) -diane
