Story Behind The Song
I was literally awakened one morning hearing the words to the chorus in my head. My eyes opened wide and all I could think of was getting to the notebook by my bed as fast as I could. I knew if I didn't jot it down I would never remember it. The verses came to me over a period of a few days. It took 12 rewrites to get it to the version you hear now. This specific version is a Suno regeneration as a country version. The original was released in 2018 on all of the streaming platforms. I still have all of the stems from the original version.
Song Description
Basically as stated above. But also added is that the idea actually came from being in grade school and crushing bad on this beautiful girl. She always told me she loved me but I was very shy about it.

Lyrics
(verse 1) We'd meet at the swings before school each day/ Never knew how much time we'd have to play/ we'd see who ran fastest to the tree/ and hoped we had time to play hide and seek/ When the bell rang we held hands into the school/ When I was with brandy I felt so cool/ She made me feel like I was the hero in her life/ There were even times we'd play man and wife
(chorus) She was the song I hoped I'd get to write/ She was the sun after all my rainy nights/ She'd be the gift one day I'd get to open/ That she loved me too is all that I was hoping/ She was the I hoped I'd get to write/ She was the sun after all my rainy nights/ That she loved me too is all that I was hoping
(verse 2) By senior year she'd met somebody else/ I said I'd be fine as I lied to myself/ It hurt me when I'd see them holding hands in the hall/ And playing games in the arcade at the mall/ when I heard her say "baby I love you too"/ It made me feel like my heart was cut in two/ Even though last summer she became his wife/ She'd still be the girl that I'd love all my life
(Chorus)
( verse 3) Some years went by and I met a nice girl? before long we brought a child in the world/ She gave me the joy I needed for so long/ I'd tuck her in and I'd play her a song/ She'd ask me to count so she could go and hide/ and have tea parties with her dolls outside./ She'd smile real big as she played on the swings/ I'd think of Brandy and I thought one thing
(Chorus)
(bridge) Last year my wife packed her things and walked/ There was no more love and we barely talked/ Drowning in pity at the bar for therapy/ Last night the was a memory sat down beside me/ 'Remember me we'd meet at the swings/ Since my old man left me i've thought about some things/ When I was with him I always thought of you/ And prayed that you'd forgive me and you always knew
( closing chorus) I wish I'd been the song song you hoped to write/ And be the sun after all your rainy nights/ And be the gift one day you'd get to open./ That you loved me too is all that I was hoping/ I wish I'd been the song you hoped you'd get to write/ and be the sun after all your rainy nights/ I'll be the gift right now you get to open/ That you love me too is all that I am hoping
