John Keith Johnson

While growing up in Shreveport, Louisiana,
Johnson began writing music at an early age.
He began writing songs on acoustic guitar before teaching himself chords and scales on the piano from the guitar, and thereafter realizing he could craft songs either on guitar or piano, with piano being his choice for composing.

During middle school, Johnson and several of his friends formed a soul rock band called "Shyy", For the next four years the group performed at local talent shows at schools all over the Shreveport/Bossier city area and made a name for themselves.

After high school the group entered a talent competition sponsored by Budweiser and won First prize, which opened up opportunities for the band and later landed them a publishing/recording contract with an affiliate of MCA Music Publishing Co. in 1986.

Upon signing the deal, Johnson and band members left Shreveport moving to Atlanta, Georgia Which was home for the label and management company whom represented the band. The group began writing songs for the groups up coming album as well as songs to be pitched to artist currently under the MCA roster.

In 1987 despite legal problems with the label as well as management, what seem to be the first soul rock band coming out of Shreveport, Louisiana was forced to cease.

After the groups break-up, Johnson and one of the former group members decided to tour with legendary R & B artist "Millie Jackson" for the next three years, with Johnson holding down the role playing rhythm guitar in "Millie's Revue". In 1990 he stop touring and decided to focus on his family.

Finally in 1991 he began to hone his craft as a songwriter/producer and he eventually formed a music production/publishing company called Tanjar Entertainment and John Keith Johnson Music Publishing Co. which he is currently the owner/operator of the ASCAP affiliated companies and he is also an ASCAP affiliate composer/writer.

Johnson is currently writing on a regular basis and pitching songs from his catalog to artist in several genres as well as film/TV opportunities.

Hello John,
I spent some time listening to your work, and there's something interesting about the direction of your sound, it already carries a kind of mood and structure that tends to translate well outside the usual release cycle.

Not in an obvious way, but in the kind of spaces where music is used more intentionally (film, sync, placements, etc.).
Have you ever explored that side of things before?

Hi,

I came across your work on Broadjam and spent some time listening to "You-Cue", there's a level of artistry and direction in your sound that's not easy to come by.

I work privately with a select number of artists, composers, and producers who are serious about positioning their music beyond traditional releases particularly within the sync and licensing space.

In my experience, many strong catalogs remain under leveraged, not due to a lack of quality, but because they aren't aligned with how music supervisors and licensing platforms actually search, filter, and select material.

My role is to bridge that gap refining catalog presentation, enhancing sync readiness, and ensuring the music is positioned where it holds real commercial value. The goal is simple: to open doors to meaningful placements, strategic partnerships, and long term opportunities.

I'm selective about who I work with, but I believe your sound could translate well in that space.

Out of curiosity, is sync and licensing currently part of your long term strategy, or is your focus elsewhere at the moment?

Best regards,
Rebecca

Hi, I checked out your music and you've got solid potential for sync licensing.
One thing I've noticed working with artists is that even great tracks often get overlooked due to small but critical things like metadata, structure, or licensing readiness.
Do you currently prepare your releases with sync opportunities in mind, or are you mainly focused on streaming and promotion?
Happy to share some insights, you can reply here or email me at belovedsteve760@gmail.com
