Story Behind The Song
Like Pull the Arrow, I was exploring an approach to playing guitar that produces and exotic sound and allows the sounding of two distinct and separate notes to be played on a single string. Middlepond is the name of a place I lived at on the eastern end of Long Island, and like a few other songs from this record, was inspired by the storms over the water.
Song Description
Following the loud section (1'20 to 2')the busy guitar figure re-emerges and all fades out and then into a new steadier section. A cello is the centerpiece of the second movement, playing a beautiful, aching solo over an ostinato prepared guitar figure (different than in the first movement), haunting piano chords, sparse Middle Eastern sounding percussion textures and ethereal sounds from multiple sources.
