Story Behind The Song
At the time this song was written by Mars Hall, every member of the band had been watching The Ed Sullivan Show with their families the very first night the Beatles appeared, February 9th 1964. Lyrics
Ed Sullivan
Lyrics by Perry Stephen Polito
When I was a little boy
No more than eight years old
I went down to my Nanna's house
To watch the Ed Sullivan show
I couldn't believe my eyes
I couldn't believe my ears
What I saw that Sunday night
Has affected me all these years
I couldn't turn away... I knew it right away...
The very next day my father bought me my first two 45's.
She Loves You, yeah, yeah, yeah
and I Saw Her Standing There
I wore those records out
Then I bought Twist & Shout.
The Walrus said, Hello Goodbye, to Lucy in the Sky.
I couldn't turn away... I'd played them every day...
(Lead Guitar Solo)
Whe I was a younger man
So much younger than today
I went down to Ray Kettner's shop
I bought a guitar and learned to play
I wore that guitar out
Writing songs about
Love, Love is all you need
It wasn't hard to figure out.
I couldn't turn away
I played and played every day
I knew it right away
Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play...
